You want a horse-riding explanation?

First, you've got to gently approach the horse.
Once you're close, hop up onto its back.

Once you get moving, you can encourage your
horse to pick up the pace.

If you want to jump an obstacle, build up some
serious speed and ride straight at it.

Don't try to jump over things diagonally though.
Horses don't like that and flat out won't jump.
