One of the Spiritual Stones—the keys to peace in the world—was held by the Deku Tree, but a monster was intent on stealing it. The Deku Tree asked Link to exterminate the monster. Link defeated Gohma, who was nesting inside the Deku Tree. The Deku Tree said his last words to Link and entrusted him with the Kokiri Emerald, the Spiritual Stone of the Forest.
